retro.cafe: Bringing back the Underground

Wow. It's been a minute.

I'm xsp. You're friendly neighborhood PlayStation developer. About 30 years ago and under a much harder to understand handle, I helped work out some the information used today that makes homebrew and emulation possible. Let's keep it vague. It's more fun that way.

There is a lot of emu saturation today. Everyone and their brother's dog has an emulator. With the rise of AI vibe coding, everyone and their brother's dog's fleas has an emulator. While choice is great, I feel like a lot of knowledge risks being lost due to the learning portion of creating these things also being a choice now.

So I decided to dust off my beast of a Gateway AMD K6 monster, fire up my Voodoo 3 and get to work on implementing my knowledge before dementia or Alzheimer's takes it away.

retro.cafe will be a love letter to the console that shaped my formative years and hopefully provides you with a fun and informational way to learn about how the PSX (don't argue with me about this. It was the PSX long before that DVR existed) works.

This is going to get crazy low level. We're going to go over things that no other emulator currently does. I am firm a believer in knowledge is power, knowing is half the battle and Han shot first.
